Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a master's degree in English literature. Mitchell joined KYW Radio and TV as an Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. 1976 Mitchell joined WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). She joined NBC News Washington two years later as a general reporter. 1981 was the year she began reporting on the White House, and in 1988 she was appointed the chief congressional Correspondent. Mitchell became the chief White House reporter in 1992 as well as the chief Foreign Affairs reporter at NBC News. Mitchell has appeared in the TV news program Meet the Press as a host and panelist. Mitchell was a part of the panel at 1988 Presidential Debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan, former Chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell received the Goldsmith Career Award in 2005 by the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize her excellence in the field of journalism. In 2004 The Radio-Television News Directors Association gave Mitchell the Leonard Zeidenberg Award in recognition for her work in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the presidency of Ronald Reagan in office from 1981 to 1988. Mitchell reported on many noteworthy issues, such as the arms control, budget taxes and the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of the President Reagan together with Mikhail Gorbachev.
